March 10, 2014

Oh my gosh! So Jessy was talking about how L. Tom Perry was at her mission at set 8 baptisms per missionary per year and he did the same at ours except the goal is 6. Still! In the south that's a big number! That's 1 per month in your companionship! So Pres Craig (mission pres) came to one of my district meetings and gave this little inspirational speech at the end and got the district (12 missionaries) to set a goal of 20(?) baptisms for March! Holy cow! That's higher than our zone goal was! Which is pretty sad... yeah... the missionaries out here don't seem to have a ton of faith to baptize...

So guess who's gonna get 6 of those baptisms??? Elder Johnson and me! I'm not trying to sound prideful! But I have really learned the importance of setting high expectations for yourself and having faith that they'll go through as you do what you can. And you do what you can by being OBEDIENT!!! It's interesting, if you look in the Index under "Joy" it says to see "obedience". Because as we are obedient we receive blessings and we WILL be happy! "Men are that they might [be obedient]"!! haha seriously! In this crazy world we cannot afford to NOT be obedient!
2 Nephi 28:7-9 says that "there will also be many which shall say eat drink and be merry nevertheless fear God, he will justify in committing a little sin." How many of US are stuck in that spot?? TOO MANY!!! DON'T be the person that willingly disobeys a few of the "minor" rules! It's not worth it! President Joseph Fielding Smith said "there is no place in Zion for the wilful sinner." DO NOT BE THAT WILFUL SINNER! I don't think most people really understand what that means! Obedience is KEY!

So that's my sermon for the day :) Blessings always follow those who are obedient.

AWKWARD MOMENT OF THE WEEK!!!

I went up to this door and took the lead as usual. I had met the lady that lived there once before. I figured she was a single mom with two kids in her 20s whose mom lived with her and so I was TOTALLY caught off guard when this fairly large man answered the door... He was very chiseled and was intimidating under the given circumstances... So here's the conversation:

Me: Hey! Is Emily home?
Him: Oh you mean MY WIFE? (emphasis on WIFE)
Me: *awkward pause...*
Me: uh.. yeah...
Him: What do you need her for?
Me: *awkward silence because I have no idea how to react being totally off guard...*
Elder Johnson: YEAH! We left her a pamphlet and just wanted to talk to her a little bit about it.
Him: Okay! :) Yeah, I actually read it and wanted to talk to you about it. She said you'd be stopping by.

Anyway, from then it went fairly well. He was only about 26 and had INCREDIBLE knowledge of the bible! I'd think he was a professor if he wasn't so young! He was sort of unintentionally bible bashing just to cite where he was coming from and he was telling US where to find scriptures to prove OUR point! It was CRAZY!!! But at the end he committed to read the Plan of Salvation pamphlet and PRAY ABOUT IT! :D THEN he set up his own return appointment with us! OHMYGAWRSH!!! That never happens!! MIRACLE!

Anyway... Yeah... it was so awkward for me :P my comp saved my butt.

I. Hate. Drama. There is so much drama here because the other elders in my area hate my guts and try to steal our investigators and all that stupid stuff. They chastise us for doing stuff we're not even doing and then they go and waste away the day at members' houses. UGH! It's so annoying. Thankfully, my companion doesn't go along with the mockery and whatnot like my last comp did sometimes. So that's nice. He's kind of like my own mama bear. He gets really angry when they make some sassy comment to me but doesn't show his frustration until they're gone.

EVERYONE!!! You HAVE to get a pedicure! Get the deluxe if you can! They feel AMAZING! :) we went with a member and I think I talked about this already but it feels soooooooooo good! That is definitely something I will be doing when I get home or get a new companion :)

I GOT OVER 100 BOWLING!!! And it was super cold when I went on exchanges with the DL so he bought a beanie :)
